Biscoitos (Portuguese Butter Cookies)

Ingredients


  • 1/2 lb Butter
  • 1 1/2 Cups Sugar
  • 5 Eggs
  • 5 Cups of Flour
  • 4 teaspoons Baking Powder

  • Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F
    2. Line baking sheets with wax paper.
    3. Cream together butter and sugar until light in color and fluffy in texture..
    4. Add eggs, mixing until blended.
    5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
    6. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, stirring until combined.
    7. If dough seems dry knead slightly.
    8. Scoop up little balls of dough.
    9. Roll between your hands to form a 5-inch long snake, even throughout the length.
    10. Brings ends of the snake together, slightly folding one end over the other, to form a donut-shape with a small hole in the middle.
    11. Place cookies 1-2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
    12. Bake 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown

    1. My mother in-law was from the azores. She made these and called them dog bisquits. She also made them different, not in circles. I have since made them and I make them into twists. Infact when my granddaughter got married I made about 200 smaller ones. They were a hit. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
